Election Day 2020

Tomorrow is Election Day. It has been a long lead up to Nov. 3 and I know many are sick and tired of hearing all the rhetoric from candidates, friends and family members. However, tomorrow is a critical moment in our nation, and it is worth pausing and acknowledging the importance of the decisions that each one of us is responsible for making this year.

While every election is important, this one looms large because the last eight and half months have been a struggle; for families, for businesses, for kids… for all of us. Sadly, that struggle will not end on Nov. 4. However, we always have the chance to alter our path. To forge a new way forward that helps us reach a day where we do not have worry about hugging our grandparents or having a beer with friends.

Elections, in a very real way, represent our desire to bring about the change we want to see in our world. I have heard more times than I care to count that “voting doesn’t matter” and that “nothing changes.” Voting does matter. The impact of who we select to lead us matters. Our path forward as a nation, as a state, and as a community is not set in stone and your voice, your values, and your beliefs will continue to shape this nation through the choices we make at the ballot box tomorrow.

It is my sincere hope that everyone takes the time to vote before 8 p.m. tomorrow at their polling location (listed below) and before you mark your ballot, please pause and consider all that has occurred in the last several months and years. Turn off the news, turn off the podcasts, stop scrolling through Facebook and Twitter, and take stock of what we have seen and shared these past few years. How will your choice on Election Day impact those around you? Often, leadership is defined by having an external focus. Looking for ways to empower and help others succeed even if there is no personal gain. Lansdale is full of great leaders in this fashion and I am hopeful all of you will show up at the ballot box tomorrow to help lead our community forward, together.

If you have any questions about voting in the election, please, do not hesitate to email me at mayor@lansdale.org
